Evaluation of synthetic zeolites as oral delivery vehicle for anti-inflammatory drugs
نویسندگان
چکیده مقاله:
Objective(s): In this research, zeolite X and zeolite Y were used as vehicle to prepare intestine targeted oral delivery systems of indomethacin and ibuprofen. Materials and Methods: A soaking procedure was implemented to encapsulate indomethacin or ibuprofen within synthetic zeolites. Gravimetric methods and IR spectra of prepared formulations were used to assess drug loading efficiencies into zeolite structures. Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) was also utilized to determine morphologies changes in synthetic zeolites after drug loading. At the next stage, dissolution studies were used to predict the in vivo performance of prepared formulations at HCl 0.1 N and PBS pH 6.5 as simulated gastric fluid (SGF) and simulated intestine fluid (SIF), respectively. Results: Drug loadings of prepared formulations was determined between 24-26 % w/w. Dissolution tests at SGF were shown that zeolites could retain acidic model drugs in their porous structures and can be able to limit their release into the stomach. On the other hand, all prepared formulations completely released model drugs during 3 hr in simulated intestine fluid. Conclusion: Obtained results indicated zeolites could potentially be able to release indomethacin and ibuprofen in a sustained and controlled manner and reduced adverse effects commonly accompanying oral administrations of NSAIDs.

متن کاملImprinted polymers as drug delivery vehicles for anti-inflammatory drugs
The aim of this work was to investigate the possibility of employing semi-covalent molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) as a controlled release device for ibuprofen and naproxen in biological fluids, especially gastrointestinal ones, compared to non imprinted polymers (NIPs). The carboxyl groups of ibuprofen and naproxen were converted to vinyl ester group by reacting ibuprofen and vinyl aceta...
متن کاملPolymeric Nanoparticle Receptors as Synthetic Antibodies for Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs)
The wide usage and subsequent leakage of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) into the environment present an urgent need to create materials for selective binding of NSAID drugs, which are highly similar to one another in structure and functionality. Surface–core double-cross-linking of cationic micelles containing Naproxen or Indomethacin as the template yielded molecularly imprinted...
متن کاملCroatian-Slovenian Symposium on Zeolites 23 CATIONIC SURFACTANTS-MODIFIED NATURAL ZEOLITES: POTENTIAL EXCIPIENTS FOR ANTI-INFLAMMATORY DRUGS
The aim of this study was to prepare and characterize a potential drug support system based on surfactant/zeolite composites for anti-inflammatory drugs. In order to increase the adsorbing capacity the external surface of the natural zeolite clinoptilolite was modified with benzalkonium chloride in the treatments raging from 100% to 300% of the zeolite external cation exchange capacity. Adsorpt...
متن کاملCannabinoids as novel anti-inflammatory drugs.
Cannabinoids are a group of compounds that mediate their effects through cannabinoid receptors. The discovery of Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) as the major psychoactive principle in marijuana, as well as the identification of cannabinoid receptors and their endogenous ligands, has led to a significant growth in research aimed at understanding the physiological functions of cannabinoids. Cannabi...
